A Saint Joseph’s, nous apprenons le Français!

At Saint Joseph’s, we aim to ensure that pupils are given opportunities to build on their confidence and become independent learners when expressing their ideas and thoughts in another language. Our lessons are designed to serve young linguists in the modern world, supporting their learning through speaking and writing. A strong focus of meaningful understanding of other cultures is also implemented into French lessons. This includes teaching pupils about French customs, traditions and heritage, including those that are both similar or different to pupils’ own experiences of modern Britain.

Learning a modern foreign language at a young age provides children with essential life skills. A high-quality language education should foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. At Saint Joseph’s, we study French in KS2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6). The French curriculum provides a clear structure to each year group with 6 blocks of 5 weeks teaching based around different topics.
