David Nolan- Foundation Governor & Chair

Link governor role for Quality of Education & Safeguarding

David has served on the Governing Body of St Joseph’s for over ten years.  He has over twenty-five years service with the Local Authority in financial and technical roles, which has provided him with much experience in the workings of public bodies and the development of skills useful in understanding data, identifying problems and solutions, and in dealing with continuous evolution and change. Having lived and worked in Middlesbrough since 1993, David knows the town fairly well and usually joins in Mass each week at St Joseph’s Parish Church, where he is also an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. David has a strong family connection to St Joseph’s school as his wife and three children all attended.

David says, “St Joseph’s has a wonderful ethos and atmosphere which needs to be maintained, alongside the ongoing plans for improved faith and learning opportunities.  Times have been, and will probably remain, unusually challenging in operating a school and for Governors, knowing and experiencing what goes on in it.  By listening, and learning about the deficits that need to be met, I would hope to be able to properly evaluate any risks and options in association with others on the Governing Body, to deliver the best possible outcomes, whilst ensuring pupil and staff safety is the highest priority. I would encourage all who have the potential to become a Foundation Governor to consider their own circumstances carefully and weigh these against a responsibility to help our Catholic schools continue in their tradition.”

In his spare time, David takes a keen interest in current affairs and is an avid watcher and listener to BBC news programmes on the television and Radio 4.  He also enjoys most things transport-related.
